I am so thankful for all of you. I’m feeling especially thankful today because I am seeing how much you guys care for each other. You affirm, encourage and support one another in amazing ways. I feel appreciative because I’m the recipient of your care as well. It feels good. Very good.

So I want to give you a gift. You can download a high-resolution file of my Sophia drawing “Vulnerable”. You can print it and hang it or use it for your computer desktop. Whatever.

I picked this image because it reminds me of you guys… how you are both strong and vulnerable at the same time.

I’ve been doing some studying on PTSD. They are making incredible advances in that field. One of the things that they are trying to do is help those who suffer from PTSD to reframe their stories so they are no longer a victim, but a hero.

Let me explain.

Our bodies react in different ways to trauma.

If our body shuts down in the face of trauma, it can leave us wondering why we didn’t do something more to protect ourselves. Even our loved ones might ask why we didn’t fight back.

This can lead to feelings of helplessness, failure and even shame.

As a result, this can get in the way of healing.

I would like you to watch this video where this therapist talks about how important it is to reframe the story in a way that affirms you rather than shames you. He encourages sufferers to reclaim what happened to them and to reinterpret their response as the only adequate response they had a the time. It was a mechanism their body used to keep them alive. So, rather than being a weak response that they need to be ashamed of, it’s a strong response they can embrace.

Watch this video soon. I’m not sure how long it will be up.

Thanks guys. Love to you all.
