This is one of my sculptures “Recept” (Brazilian soapstone on walnut and brass base: 4″x5″x6″ / 10cm x 12cm x 15cm).
One of my greatest artistic inspirations is Romanian sculptor Brancusi. He was studying in the great Rodin studio but left after only two months saying,
“Nothing can grow under big trees.”
What he meant was that it was impossible for him to grow as his own artist and sculptor under the shadow of such a great artist as Rodin.
Maybe for you the church was a big tree. Initially, it provided the protection you needed to sprout and establish some roots. But you eventually came to understand, like Brancusi, that you were not going to grow anymore if you stayed.
What you did was for your own health. You have grown larger than you ever could have otherwise. You know this.
And I applaud you.
