I’ve read this, and I’ve experienced this to be true.

Often the traumas we experience are so difficult and even so impossible to deal with that we allow them to freeze over. As a result, our traumas with all the associated memories and pains are no longer felt. If we get help or learn face our traumas in order to integrate them into our selves, then the ice thaws, exposing the raw traumas again in order that we can work with them.

The interesting thing about our frozen traumas is that they can still be seen through the clear ice of our coping mechanisms. They can even be studied to some degree. But that’s as far as we go.

At some point we need to thaw the ice and the traumas so that they can be faced, felt and fused with our total, whole selves.

*** My son Joshua took this photo on our river last night. Beautiful!
