WHY TLS IS DIFFERENT

I’m not saying there aren’t other groups out there like TLS.

I’m just saying I don’t know of any.

I think it’s because our core value is that we entrust each person to their own journeys… whether we call them spiritual or otherwise (when I use the term “spiritual”, I refer to our inner lives aside from any deity or the supernatural).

We’ve always insisted at The Lasting Supper that your job is to “help yourself”. It’s your job to empower yourself to live your own life as you best see fit.

This is why TLS is so diverse.

We do not suggest or prescribe that you walk a certain path to end up in a certain place.

Whether you are a church-going believer or an agnostic or an atheist, this is not the point. The point is that you have made that choice, found the courage to live it, and graciously provide a safe space for others to do the same.

This is also why I’m not super clear on my theological positions. I have never published a “Statement of Beliefs”, because I know what happens: people will feel pressured to align their positions with mine.

And I don’t want that.

I love the diversity. And I love that each person here is living their own life, empowered by their own wisdom, courage, and determination to be authentic.

I admire you all for this.

And I love TLS because of you all.
