Malcolm Gladwell is coming out with a new book, David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits and the Art of Battling Giants. I’m looking forward to reading this one just like I have all his others.
From what I gather, he suggests that rather than there being the odd hero who emerges that we worship, there should be far more of us rising to the status of hero. But we allow so many things to hold us back… things like poverty, stupidity and culture.
I would even claim similar things like a poverty mentality; the unwillingness to learn and apply new intelligence and skills; and our peers.
When I was in church as a teenager I was constantly warned about God’s judgement on people who would not abide by his law. Of course, it meant conforming to what everyone around expected. It not only discouraged dissent and disobedience, but punished it.
Strange! Because I knew then that most of the heros of the bible were people who broke the mold.
It’s time to cast off restraint and be the person you are.
