Love doesn’t control people.
We have 3 grown children. I would love to control them so that they would always make wise choices, always be safe, and never do anything to hurt themselves or others. But I can’t do that. They are individuals who have to live their own lives. I can provide input. But I can’t control them. Because I respect them. I love them.
Not controlling others and not being controlled yourself is a profound expression of love. It takes getting used to because it’s seldom seen or experienced. It takes practice. But this is what love does.
Love doesn’t control people.
