I noticed something personal about myself the other day. No, it’s not that lovely freckle in that special place. It’s something I’ve been doing for years and never even noticed until recently. Here it is…
I like to keep 3 kinds of books on the go at the same time. I like to keep a fiction, a help book, and a deeply intellectual book on the go at once. So here are the three I have on the go right now:
- Fiction: Cormack McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian”. I love McCarthy’s work because he’s a no-holds-barred kind of writer in touch with the more brutal honesties of real life. I don’t think you can read his work and remain naive or pie-in-the-sky.
- Help: Malcolm Gladwell’s “David and Goliath”. I like reading books about business since I’m an entrepreneur and have a couple businesses. In this book Gladwell explains why underdogs and misfits can win against the giants.
- Depth: Slavoj Žižek’s book, “Less Than Nothing: Hegel and the Shadow of Dialectical Materialism”. I’m a huge fan of Žižek because he sets his axe to the roots and examines all our assumptions and ideologies. He rocks my world and helps me grow theologically/philosophically.
How about you? What books do you have on the go right now?
