Do you ever look at old journals and cringe at some of the things you wrote? Oh, it’s just me? Okay.
I ended up doing some of that today, quite by accident. But in that, I also came across some things that it blew me away that I wrote. Thought I’d share. As raw material for potential lyrics:
You were the very one
Who should have been my protector
You turned out instead
To be the abuser
It was your way or the highway
What you couldn’t see
Was that your way
Was running over me
You didn’t love me regardless
And now my heart searches for that
Wherever it goes
And another one, called Don’t Tell Me How to Feel
You haven’t walked in my shoes
You have no idea what it’s like
Don’t tell me how to feel
You don’t even realize
The judgement
And prejudice
In your heart
You think you’re so righteous
And everyone who doesn’t fit
In your little box
Is falling away
And that you can pick them off
With your weapon of so-called truth
Don’t tell me how to feel
Don’t tell me how to deal
That’s powerful stuff. You’re a writer!
I have read old diary stuff and cringed; many times! I literally burned one journal in my woodstove because it wasn’t a “me” that I ever wanted to revisit. These raw, passionate lyrics are great stuff. The second set is reminiscent of a Mumford song, but of course, entirely your own. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
wow, I love that. I love the raw expression. thanks for sharing!
