I find my “spiritual” life has grown exponentially during my exodus from organized church. My friends do not understand and they stay in their cloister of small group and hang out with only those friends now and since I do not join them, the distance between us has gone from a gulley to the Grand Canyon. Church sucked the life out of me and now it’s sucking my friends away, too. I am afraid that the next time I have a crisis (had an emergency hysterectomy in February and ONE person from the small group was there for me) that I will be facing it alone, or at least without “church” friends. If it wasn’t for my friendships at work, I’d be totally dry.
