Truth: That which is in accordance with fact or reality.

I do not think spirituality has anything to do with truth… Truth means Fact…

    Like:

    2+2=4

Water is made of 2 parts hydrogen and 1 part oxygen.

At its closest point, the Moon is 363,104 km away from the Earth
    These are statements of truth.

Things that are not truth… could one day be truth if facts are found to support these THEORIES…

Things that are not currently truth:

    There is a god…

God is Jehovah… God is Allah… God is Buddha…

    There is only one god…

    God is a trinity…

The Bible is the word of god…

None of these things are truth…

In the early church I think the concept of spirituality was very different… I do not think people were so driven by facts… but were more drawn to christianity because of some of the mystery… after all faith is … Believing in that which is not seen… that which you cannot prove… thats kinda the point… If it were truth… if it had fact and reality backing every thought or principal… then faith becomes a moot point… How can “Keep the Faith!” if it were all fact… Believing in facts requires no faith… and therefore nothing is required of us to have faith in something… then faith is dead and gone…

Now I have heard someone say that there is personal truth… and I guess there is… I think that if the belief in your religion or your faith gives you happiness and joy… then it is TRUTH that your faith does benefit you… but it is not a fact that your faith is TRUTH and that it can help everyone or even anyone else…

I think we started to fixate on this topic when we entered the age of reason…

    Just my 2 cents!

    Peace
    David

To be  honest… the fact that it is so different from “church” is why I am looking into it… =) No desire here to go to a churchy church…

It sounds like the one here is pretty wide open… It doesn’t appear that they consider themselves to be a “christian”… I will check it out… Thanx for the info Amy!

No Problem Jo!! It was not an experience I ever expected to have again… after leaving the faith… I had chalked up what I experienced in church to emotionalism… but I have to say that I believe there is power in collective thought… or collective consciousness rather… The thing that is so beautiful about the “hippie” fests that my wife and i attend are that they are truly come as you are… and who you are is celebrated as beautiful and unique!!

One of the things that I miss most about not going to church or being a christian for that matter is “worship”… In my pentecostal/charismatic background… Music played a very large role… I miss the sense of community and oneness of mind that I experienced in the past… But I have to say that this past summer at a music festival ( not a christian one ) I experienced this same thing… and actually it was far more profound and moving… I was sitting in the grass… listening to “Medicine for the People”… They have many songs that are very worship like… and as the crowd started singing along… a sense of love and connectedness was so thick in the air it was like a dense fog… As tears streamed down my face… I noticed that I was not the only one sensing this… People started joining hands… raising their hands to the sky… making symbols of peace and love… it was truly an amazing experience…

This is one of the songs that they played that night…

The lyrics are on the youtube page if you care to read them… =)

    And another favorite…

    Enjoy! Peace & Love

I am reading “Mitakuye Oyasin – We are all related” by Ehanamani ( Walks Among ) aka Dr. A.C. Ross:

So far it is an awesome book… It is a cross between a history lesson… and a systematic theology of sorts gleaned from the oral history of 33 Native American tribes…

@Jo White – This book also talks much about the left and right hemispheres of the brain… Synchronicity perhaps?!?!

    Heya Syl…

I like the idea of smaller regional groups… If we had enough interest that is something that could probably happen more than once a year… It would still be very incredible to get all who wanted to attend in one locale… That would be amazing I think!

    Peace,

    Greetings Holli!!

I was converted to christianity through “Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames”… and it was the very scene that you were in that kicked me square in the @$$! =) I was that party kid racing towards the gates of hell… I bought it hook line and sinker… In a matter of a few days I was the poster child for the youth group… Drug Dealing Youth Finds Jesus!! And they all cheered… First step was to find a godly woman of who was “pastor’s wife” material… CHECK! next it was off to bible college to get my ministry rolling!! Well it all went as planned til I actually got into the ministry… I regurgitated the teachings of college for a few years and everything seemed A-OK… But I let my old logical and analytical self come through a bit… and that along with the knowledge I had gained at bible college in my Biblical Languages Courses… set me on a slightly different path… The more I studied the more questions I had… And therefore the more studying I did… it was a decent into knowledge… lol… And that path leads me to where I am today…

    Welcome Aboard!!

    Peace

Although I try not to use absolutes like “ALL RELIGIONS”… Especially since I do not have experience with “ALL RELIGIONS”… I can say that from my own limited experience… that many religions may give lips service to the concept of unconditional love… most however seem to fall far short of the “unconditional love” mark… and more often reside int he conditional…
