Deanna Ogle started the topic New post: On grief, David Rakoff, and fireworks in the forum Leftovers 1 year, 4 months ago
I’m still processing through the passing of my father-in-law, and it creeps up in unexpected ways. This isn’t anything super spiritual or anything, but I figured I could share anyway since this is the Leftovers section.

I’m pretty sure Lark News is fake, because I nearly freaked when I read the article.
I have an aunt and uncle who saved their first kiss for marriage. It was awkward while they were engaged because instead of giving a peck on the cheek or lips like most people, they would just stare longingly into each others eyes.
I mean, I guess I’m happy…[Read more]

Deanna Ogle started the topic …How am I supposed to take that? in the forum Family & Friends 1 year, 7 months ago
My mom saw a blog post I wrote about Easter (http://www.soullikeaspider.com/2013/03/28/easter-year-3/). She said something that I quickly brushed off, but now I don’t really know how to take.
Mom: The the church you were hurt at was so much less conservative than where your dad and I grew up, and if you were that tender of a soul and had been…[Read more]

Deanna Ogle started the topic The Shaming Voice in my Head (and Spiritual Abuse Week on the Web) in the forum Spiritual Abuse 1 year, 8 months ago
So, this week a lot of the popular bloggers have taken to their keyboards to talk about spiritual abuse this week: http://rachelheldevans.com/blog/abuse-series-intro
My initial reaction was, “Huh, I think I’ll have to contribute a post!” But then my thought was immediately snuffed out when a thought in my head said, “Oh shut up. You weren’t …[Read more]

Deanna Ogle started the topic Another panic day (A.K.A. how do these verses exist?) in the forum Spiritual Abuse 1 year, 10 months ago
I’m having another one of those days. I’m fine, I’m confident, I feel like I’m working through my faith. And then I go to church and hear this message that I’m supposed to accept this miserable, oppresive and mortifying narrative of the “good Christian life”.
And then I hear the verses the pastor is quoting and they are real verses… Things…[Read more]

Deanna Ogle started the topic Having a rough night. in the forum Trying to Move On 2 years ago
Hi guys. I’m coming here because I don’t know who else to talk to. Here’s a quote that appeared on my Facebook wall after a little bit of a discussion. I don’t know how to deal with this:
We want to focus on the loving part of Christ, but not the judging. Jesus rescued the adulterous woman in a way that put the religious leaders in their place.…

Deanna Ogle started the topic Responding to "concerned" family emails? in the forum Family & Friends 2 years, 1 month ago
I’ve received two emails this week from my grandmothers on either side. One was a CrossWalk email debunking the “Jesus was married” hullabaloo. The other was an email forward about politics. (I think they might be trying to stage an intervention, hah.)
What would you guys do? I politely responded to the married Jesus email clarifying my po…[Read more]

Deanna Ogle started the topic "You’re a Christian. You can’t study that at college!" in the forum Personal Spirituality 2 years, 1 month ago
(I’m new here, so please forgive me if this is too rant-y for this space.)
There’s this thing that no one actually says out loud but always uses their faces to express at me: that if you’re a “good Christian”, you’re not supposed to want to (or even allowed to) study in certain academic fields.
These fields include but are not limited to: psy…[Read more]
