I really had no idea where to post this, so I’m putting it here. I guess it falls under both theology and the church.
After reading that article about Furtick and his 1.7 million-dollar home, secluded and fenced off, I started thinking about this. It seems like the big issue isn’t the money or the lack of transparency or the house itself. It…[Read more]

I posted a little about this on the FB group, but I wanted to write about it more generically. After a blow-up with my in-laws over this issue, I started thinking about how it seems like a lot of people just don’t seem to think boundaries are important. My family tends to put them in the wrong place; my in-laws tend to just have none. On top of …[Read more]

Amy started the topic Rant about "love the sinner" in the forum Sexuality & Relationships 1 year, 4 months ago
Something occurred to me and I just kind of needed to rant about it. Was having a conversation with a friend about how often straight Christians sit around talking about “what to do” about including/accepting/welcoming LGBT people. It annoys me, and I couldn’t figure out why, since I’m a straight person. And with the US Supreme Court killing th…[Read more]

Amy started the topic Jazz Band again in the forum Living Creatively 1 year, 5 months ago
So, I’m sorry I’ve been absent lately. One more week and all the business should let up a bit. This past weekend was a whirlwind of activity, and one of the reasons was that my son’s jazz band competed in a big festival last Friday. We found out today that his band (kids ages 9-11) came in first in their category (middle schools) and third ov…[Read more]

My son had his spring concert last night, and they played this song (which is on my top 10 list). He has a solo around 2 minutes in.

I have a guest post up for Dianna Anderson today (I mentioned her in the hangout about feminism/spirituality, and I think her blog is on the list). She’s had a series on “Account and Countenance,” all about our images of God. Here’s mine: http://diannaeanderson.net/blog/2013/5/guest-post-god-an-old-white-dude-on-jeopardy

This was the story I posted today, inspired by Mark Driscoll comparing women to drippy faucets (and David’s marvelous cartoon in response). Driscoll is a never-ending fount of inspiration for such things, no?

So, my kid did this thing. His school was having a fundraiser at our local Barnes & Noble, and his jazz band performed right in the cafe there. We knew he was playing a solo in their first song, and I thought that was it. He surprised us by playing a solo in their final number which he wrote himself (they are learning to improvise). Keep in min…[Read more]

Amy started the topic Baptism in the forum Personal Spirituality 1 year, 7 months ago
I’m not sure if this is the place for it, but it seemed to fit. If it’s not, let me know. I guess I think my kids’ beliefs are sort of in the realm of personal spirituality.
This morning, my 9yo son was baptized. This was entirely his choice; we did not force, coerce, or even suggest it–he approached us and asked. He actually first ask…[Read more]

Amy started the topic This Week's Story in the forum Laugh Links & Ideas 1 year, 8 months ago
I wasn’t really sure where to post this, so I’m putting it here. I write a new short story about once a week (didn’t do it last week due to illness). Here’s the link to this week’s story: The Royal Family of Hell: Episode 1. My goal is to be a bit more willing to share my writing, because it honestly terrifies me to think of people reading my…[Read more]
