Come join our group! Go to the Groups tab along the top of the site and look for us. (We’re the only group so far so it should be easy.)

When major events unfold over generations the ones living in it don’t see the full picture. I believe we are seeing the fall of Christianity now too.

Word is getting around Taber about our Freethinkers group. The article was in the paper this week and I’ve three people comment to me on it. Nothing negative, more just support for doing it or finding it interesting.

I just posted an article the local paper did about our group to the Facebook group. I can’t see a place to put a picture here. Our local paper doesn’t put much up on its website so its a good old fashioned paper article!

Thanks for this thought provoking post.
As I am now “out” in the public sphere I’m trying to figure out what parts of Christianity I can hold onto and what I can’t. I know there is wisdom in the Bible. But some parts are just man making God do what he he needs at the time.
I think the refusal, distancing, and difference is a part that I don’t…[Read more]

It’s been a while since I’ve updated everyone on what I’ve been up to to here goes.
Ever since the fall I’ve been working at getting a TLS like group going in my town. We’ve met once as a group of about 10 people but lately its been just me and one other person. This person is really excited about the group and is really the gasoline behind my…[Read more]

I think Tapestry is my new favourite show on CBC. I first heard of Reza from someone posting the Fox New interview. I’ve gotta read the book now. I think he articulates (in the Tapestry interview) so much of what I believe and where I come from. (If you want to download the mp3 rather than listen online you need to go to a separate page, for so…[Read more]

I recently listened to this Ideas program and it really put a lot of stuff together. I may put it on again this week because there was so much to it. I drive a couple hours a day so its easy to get alot of audiobooks or podcasts in. I’ve put the description below and the links. What I love about Ideas is its fairly balanced and generally takes a…[Read more]

This has to be my favourite song right now. There’s not more to say other than start the player and follow the words.
(If the player doesn’t work go to http://soundcloud.com/sarahslean/sarah-slean-the-one-true-love/ )I saw Sarah in Winnipeg many years ago and there is no one who matches her in stage performance. I recently saw her in Le…[Read more]

As you can probably guess from my username I’m a huge Cowboy Junkies fan. I had the pleasure of going to see them this past week in a small venue and even being able to chat with Margo Timmins after in the lobby. I haven’t seen them live for over ten years and I believe I only had seen them live once prior to this week. This was the band that I’…[Read more]

I’ve been here for a little over a month and have enjoyed the conversations I’ve been a part of but I’ve decided to pack up and move out. Using the basecamp analogy David put on the blog a while back this was a great place to stop and work through some things but now I feel called to move on.
Thanks again and I wish you well in your future.

I realized yesterday I just jumped right in and didn’t introduce myself … so here I am … the first stab in the dark at an intro.
My username comes from an off spelling of the group The Cowboy Junkies. I love their music and I love the band and their story even more. I used to listen to their CD’s all the time in university. As I ventured …[Read more]

I was reading over the post What does faith mean to me? and I want to pick up on some comments by @amarisjane and @shift about the history of the church.
For me I think a lot of what is making me want to distance myself from the church is its history. Here where I live in western Canada they were a big part of the residential schools that …[Read more]

cowboyjunkey started the topic Family-centric church structures in the forum The Church 1 year, 8 months ago
One of the frustrations I’ve been having with church is the family-centric nature of it. I’ve come to realize that this plays an important part for many families but I’m wondering if this is why so many people (mainly men?) get bored in church. For example this was part of a message at our church recently:
Priorities:
1. God
2. Spouse
3. …[Read more]
