David Hayward started the topic what does jesus mean to you? in the forum Personal Spirituality 1 year, 7 months ago
We have a wide diversity of people on TLS, from atheists to believers. Some might believe that the man Jesus didn’t even exist but is a construct of mythologies popular in that area and era. Some might believe he was a wise teacher. Some might believe he was a prophet from God. Some might believe he was God. Whatever.
What does Jesus mean to you now?

David Hayward started the topic archived stories in the forum Meet & Greet 1 year, 11 months ago
Hey everyone who posted your fascinating stories to the blog: I’ve got a request. Easy. All I’m asking you to do is go back, copy and paste your story here in forums. It will make everything easier. Just “create new topic” with a title, maybe your username… That would be sweet.
Thanks!

David Hayward started the topic free Sophia print "Tightrope" in the forum Leftovers 2 years ago
Hey everybody!
Sorry for the down time we had with the forums. We are continuously trying to make it a more user-friendly experience. It took a couple of days, but it is finally the way we want it. Until we improve it again.
When you click on “forums” it will take you to the new forums page. There are now different forums: barbecue,…[Read more]

David Hayward started the topic Site Suggestions in the forum Leftovers 2 years, 1 month ago
Hi everyone. Well… we’ve reached a kind of benchmark with 150 members. You guys are like our charter members. I think that’s so cool.
I’m working hard every day to make this site a better place for us. I say “us” because it is for you, but I’m also doing this for myself. I enjoy the community and what’s happening here and want this site to be…[Read more]

David Hayward started the topic How do we respond to questions challenging our decision to leave church, etc? in the forum Trying to Move On 2 years, 1 month ago
This topic question was a suggestion from one of our members! How do we respond to questions that challenge us as to why we left the church, why we no longer believe the way we used to, and why we have changed at all? What are some suggestions, or some actual responses that you’ve used and found effective?

David Hayward started the topic You favorite Sophia drawing. in the forum Living Creatively 2 years, 1 month ago
I was just wondering what your favorite Sophia drawing of mine is. I have almost 50 to date. To check them out go here.
My plan, once I have all 52 completed, is to compile them into a book with poetry, meditations, and Sophia’s fans’ comments about each image.
So… what’s your favorite one?

David Hayward started the topic some testimonials please in the forum Leftovers 2 years, 2 months ago
Hey everyone. I’m working very hard to make this site everything I envisioned and more! I need your help. We have a few testimonials on the front page, but I’d like some more please. Can I have some brilliant testimonials from you if you haven’t already? Thanks! Not long. Just a few sentences would be fine.

David Hayward started the topic Do you hang out with other pastors? in the forum Ex-pastors & Leaders 2 years, 2 months ago
Does anyone here hang out with other pastors? I used to all the time when I was in ministry. When I left I was dropped like a hot-potato. I have a good friend who used to be my assistant pastor. We still hang out. But that’s it. What about you?

David Hayward started the topic your first job after the ministry in the forum Ex-pastors & Leaders 2 years, 2 months ago
My first job after leaving the ministry was ESL… teaching English as a Second Language to international university students. A good friend already working there helped me get in. Otherwise I would’ve had no idea what I would’ve done.
What was your first job after leaving the ministry?

David Hayward started the topic what was your biggest loss? in the forum Ex-pastors & Leaders 2 years, 2 months ago
I want to share with you what I think was my biggest loss when I left the ministry and the church (which, btw, was at the same time): friends. I lost pretty much all my friends. Painful.

David Hayward started the topic my kids… in the forum Leftovers 2 years, 2 months ago
I have three kids: Joshua (25); Jesse (23); Casile (20). They are wonderful. They’ve seen and experienced all we went through. They are not interested in church right now, but they talk about it once in a while. They even entertain the thought of attending one once in a while. But not yet. However, I have a deep respect for their spiritualities.…[Read more]

David Hayward started the topic the three worst things about post-church survival in the forum Trying to Move On 2 years, 2 months ago
After leaving the church, I think the 3 worst things about it for me have been:
1. theological uncertainty: (needing to develop my own theology that makes sense of my journey)
2. resources: there’s hardly anything out there to help people after leaving the church that isn’t church-bashing or flakey.
3. loneliness: yes, loneliness has been…[Read more]

David Hayward started the topic the most influential book in my life: in the forum Theology & Philosophy 2 years, 2 months ago
So this is my first forum topic. I just want to do a short one to get a discussion going. This one is about “The most influential book in my life has been…”
Mine is Krishnamurti’s, “The Urgency of Change”. I know it isn’t Christian. When I shared this with others so many years ago, they told me I was backslidden, a heretic, a mystic, a…[Read more]
